Toy Story Invitations

The homily of Father Max - 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

"O God give us a call in the baptismal vocation to be fully available to the announcement of your kingdom, grant us courage and apostolic evangelical freedom, because we make in every situation to your word of love and peace. "

" As one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you ... "
" As for me not to glory in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world is for me was crucified, and I to the world. "

" Go, see, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. (...) The Kingdom of God is near. "

" You near you the Kingdom of God "here is the content of the Gospel!

The term appears twice in a few lines: for those who accept Christ and his apostles, these are words of salvation. For those who reject the testimony of Christ and the apostles (those) are words of condemnation. What I want to emphasize is, first, the extreme brevity of the 'ad and, secondly, the valence - positive, or negative - that it may take depending on the people to whom it applies . Ultimately, the responsibility of salvation is totally entrusted to our availability, our will, to our

freedom ... God does not punish anyone! we decree that in a sense our present and eternal happiness, or our exclusion from this happiness. Happiness - in biblical terms, is called the Kingdom of God - to be found, must be built, preserved, defended. The happiness that God offers us is not combined with the wealth in this aspect but secondary, the proposal Gospel is very different from those of the world.

In this regard, it is nevertheless necessary to recognize that contemporary thought has begun to raise doubts about the validity of the equation wealth = happiness. " company like ours, driven by millions of men and women looking for happiness, they become even richer, but it is not clear whether this will become happier. It seems that the pursuit of happiness by the man could prove counterproductive. All the empirical data we have suggest that the population of the affluent society, perhaps there is no link between the increase in wealth (considered the main vehicle of a happy life) and increased happiness "(Z. Bauman). Yet the correlation between wealth and happiness is still widely considered one of the most indisputable truth, if not the most obvious of all. That's what state political leaders and their advisers. The recent meeting of the G20 in Canada confirms this, albeit with some difficulty in more than when it was called G8

... Ordinary people read newspapers, watch TV and subscribe to the same opinion, without bothering to think about at it critically. It acts a bit 'all - from the Chief of the man in the street - on the assumption that that correlation exists. Taxpayers are asking the government to act more decisively and more strongly on the basis of that conviction, in common hope that politics can not confirm the axiom in real terms - an increase of money, the greater availability of goods and products, etc.. etc. - And better quality of life of each and every one.

Yet a study conducted by economist Robert Lane, in the United States, have shown that, despite the dramatic growth in income, in place since World War II, Americans feel less happy.

Rm 12,2). San Paolo, in particolare sposta il centroid of happiness, of true wealth, the identity of man, of Christ on the cross . Declaring that the cross of Christ is the only source of pride, it means discovering the secret of the Gospel, especially in the difficult task of being able to convert the mentality, unfortunately widespread, the faith of those who associate with something difficult, painful ... and therefore to be avoided.

There seems to be objected that intelligent faith in the cross of Christ transforms lives in a sad thing? that Christians are inherently sad people, because they have the cross as a trademark?

Now let us ask ourselves: what idea did St. Paul of the Cross? certainly different from that of those who experienced a situation of marginality, and illness, and decided that, in fact, a cross unfair and cruel. Not to mention those who have transformed the symbol of the cross in a simple jewelry to wear or, worse, in a ruse to mock the Church, or, more to the Christian faith ...
see how many different ways and can understand this sign, to take sides for or against.
Actually, the cross of Christ is born and will always be a sign of contradiction . Moreover, the old man Simeon had prophesied at Jesus' mother at the time of presentation in the temple (Luke 2:34-35). It announced the contradiction is not just in terms of interpersonal relationships.

The contradiction is heavier within us is the state of mind with which we deal every day, having joined voluntarily and in all sincerity to the faith of Christ. And perhaps this state of mind, leaving no uncomfortable quiet, that is what the killing far, should help maintain the path of conversion, a way never quite done, return again in this life means to distance us from our sins . In the eternal life will be eternal progress in the vision of God

" All I want to live happy, but confused the eye,
when they discern what makes a happy life ... "
